The first episode immediately reminded me of another popular anime, My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X, but with a slightly different vibe. While it’s not as comedic, it still packs a punch with its intriguing storyline. You’ll be on the edge of your seat right from the start!
So, here’s the deal: our main character, Rinko Hanasaki, finds herself outside on top of a building waiting for an email. To her surprise she receives an acceptance email for her dream school even after being out of the game for a year. But her excitement is short lived when she gets pushed off a building right after 🤯! And get this: she catches a glimpse of a mysterious cube-like figure as she falls. She then finds herself reincarnated as a Raeliana McMillan.
But wait, there’s more! Raeliana wakes up in a world inspired by a book, where her father is a Barren due to amassing wealth from the oil industry 💸. In the first episode, she’s determined to break off her engagement with Francis Brooks, who claims it’s all about politics and that she should be grateful to marry him because of his high status.
But here’s the shocking part: Brooks had been poisoning ☠️ Raeliana through her nightly tea. His real plan was to kill Raeliana and then manipulate her family into signing over their oil company! Raeliana is ahead of the game because she’s read the novel that this world is based off of and is aware of Brooks true intentions. But let’s be real, thank goodness for Duke Noah Volstaire Wynknight, who steps in to ensure justice is served.
One of the most exciting moments is the “meet cute” between Raeliana and Duke Noah. Picture this: Raeliana is desperate for help in regard to Brooks but has no idea how to approach Noah. Given that he is of very high status she knows he could assist but must trend wisely 🤔. So, on the spot, she comes up with a brilliant plan involving the whereabouts of the royal seal, and the two of them pretend to be in a relationship. Their chemistry is off the charts ❤️🔥! There’s this electric tension between them, and you can’t help but root for their growing connection.
Now, let’s talk about some of my favorite scenes 😍. In the first episode, there’s this epic moment in the gardens where Noah stands up to Brooks and defends Raeliana. It’s so satisfying to see him put that shady user in his place! But lets be real, my all-time favorite scene has to be when Raeliana and Noah enter their contract, Noah tells her, “As you wish, all that I ask is that for as long as this farce goes on, you’ll be my fiancée whenever, wherever, and however I desire you to be.” Yesssssssssssss, he wouldn’t have to tell me twice! If she couldn’t then I would gladly volunteer as tribute.
I must admit, there are a few things that bothered me, like Noah’s possessiveness. At times, he goes a bit overboard, like when he enters the sacred cleansing space and forcibly grabs Raeliana’s arm. He knew he was not supposed to be in that sacred space but entered because of his overprotective nature. But here’s the saving grace: Raeliana is one strong-willed protagonist! She yanks her arm away and pushes him into the pool of water. She knows her worth and demands respect 👏🏽. It’s always refreshing to see a female anime character stand up for themselves.
Oh, and I can’t forget to mention my favorite character,** Adam Taylor**, the red-eyed knight. He’s such a captivating presence 😍! I love how he slowly opens up, defying Noah just a little bit and genuinely listening to Raeliana. There’s definitely more to him than meets the eye, and I can’t wait to learn more about him.
Overall, Raeliana has left me craving for more. I’m anxiously waiting for a second season to be announced, but if I can’t wait, I might just dive into the web novel to uncover the mysteries. I’m dying to find out who pushed Raeliana off the building and discover the truth behind everything!
