Seirei Gensouki Spirit Chronicles Season 1 Recap: A Journey into Fantasy!

It’s been 3 years since Seirei Gensouki Spirit Chronicles season 1 released and I am beyond excited for a new season. Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles season 2 will be releasing this fall in October. So let’s get caught up on the adventures, friends, and enemies the 1st season gave us.

If you need a video recap I got you 😉. Check out my youtube!

The story begins with Haruto, a young man who’s parents divorces forces him to separate from his childhood friend Miharu. So he promises he will return to marry her, despite the challenges he faces. However, as a 20 yr old university student a tragedy strikes, as Haruto dies in a bus accident.

In another world Rio, a boy from the slums with a mission to avenge his mother’s death, awakens from a nightmare filled with Haruto’s memories.

He encounters Celia, Christina, Roanna, and Vanessa, who are on a mission to find a missing girl. They sense his potent mystic energy and ask him if he has seen this girl. Though he has not they offer him a bag of coins in gratitude.

Back home, Rio faces an attacker, and a mysterious spirit girl appears to guide him in the ways of magic, he discovers a power within himself. He rescues Flora who he can only assume is the missing girl.

But Rio is interrogation and beaten at the capital for being a suspect in the princes Floras kidnaping. They are able to find the actual kidnapper but they mysteriously die as an onlooker crushes a red crystal. Due to the misunderstanding the King grants Rio a scholarship to attend Bertram Royal Academy. At the academy, Rio excels academically and in combat, (mainly because of Haruto’s college academics and combat training past). He even ties with Christina as the top academic student and is noticed by the Master of weapons for his combat skills. Leading to rivals like Alphonse and discrimination from the other royals for being a peasant. Dispite this, Rio and Ceilia become friends. Ceilia, who graduated the academy at a very young age, happens to be one of Rios professors, even though she is 1 year older than him.

During the academy’s tournament, Rio defeats Charles, the knight who tortured him.

In his sixth year at the academy, Rio participates in an outdoor practicum and risks his life to save Flora when she was falling off a cliff. To save face Stewart, the one who accidentally pushed Flora, blames Rio for the incident leading Rio to become a wanted man. This led to Rios decision to leave Bertram. But Stewarts Family send their assasin to get rid of Rio before the truth comes out.

Rios journey takes him to the Almada kingdom, where he meets Latifa, a beast human girl with a tragic past enslaved by royals and used as their assasin. Rio helps Latifa break free from her chains and embark on a journey to the land of beast humans.

In the Forest of Spirits, Rio reconnects Latifa with the beast humans, undergoes training, and learns about his lineage and unique abilities from the three elders and the spirit of the World Tree, Dryas. His bond with Latifa deepens as she considers him like a big brother.

Reiss plotting something takes a griffenrider and goes to a place to collect a dragon egg, uses the griffenrider and the egg as a decoy. Reiss crushes a red crystal just like the one we saw that lead to Floras kidnapper’s death, to kill the griffinrider after he is able to collect many more eggs. After helping the Forest of spirit from an attack of a Wivern whos egg was stolen, the elders consider Rio a friend of the forest and gift him meds, a sword, and a space time cache that can store his items in a dimension.

Rio’s travels to his mothers village in the Yaguma region reveal his royal lineage, leading to him meeting his grandparents who want him to duel the best swordsman, Gouki before continuing on his journey of avenging his mothers death. The one who his anger is directed to, Lucius, one of his father’s guard mates who killed Rios mother in front of him when he was 5yrs old. After helping the village with some village political creeps, propagating and farming, and turning down a love interest, Rio heads back to the Forest of spirits to reunite with Latifa.

The sprite that helped Rio out during Floras kidnapping is now able to be in human form so Rio names her Aishia and becomes his spirit companion that can communicate with him telepathically. Latifa opens up to Rio and tells him of her past life. Both of them come to the realization that they were both in japan and victims in the bus accident. This time when Rio leaves the Forest the elders gift him a home that he can put in his space time cache, a teleportation stone that will allow him to travel to the Forests of spirits, and an magical earring that will change the color of his hair since he’s still a wanted man.

Rio decides to go back to the capital research facility to see how Celia’s been doing. Rio learns of the arranged marriage between Celia and Charles, as well as the fleeing of Flora and her father the king, leading to Charles gaining power. To protect Ceilia, Rio plans a daring escape with Ceilia during the wedding parade.

In the final moments of the season, Rio helps 3 people who can speak surprisingly Japanese from kidnappers, one of them being his childhood friend Miharu.

Don’t forget the new season will be releasing this fall in October and there are so many unanswered questions. Like, why was Miharu missing after their high school entrance? Were all the people involved in the bus accident reincarnated into people of this new world? What will Reiss do with all those dragon eggs he collected? I will definitely be tuning into season 2. What are your most excited for or who you want to see more of in season 2.

Until next time, byeeeeee
